More and more children today are struggling with their behaviour, often in ways that can be confusing or concerning for the adults around them. Challenging behaviours such as anger, meltdowns, sibling rivalry, school avoidance, and defiance are often just the surface signs of deeper struggles children are facing. These behaviours can be a response to increasing social demands, the weight of academic expectations, the stress of busy households and family struggles. They can also stem from SEMH and SEN, including neurodiversity. Parents and schools often don’t have all the knowledge they need to help. To avoid labelling or blaming children, it is important to identify the underlying cause of their challenges. Behaviours are often signs that a child needs help or is craving social connection in a world that can feel very overwhelming to their developing minds.
